Paddington by Michael Bond

Read the book then see the movie! Movie comes out Friday, December 12, 2014

With nothing but a suitcase, several jars of marmalade, and a label around his neck that read, "Please Look After This Bear," he stowed away on a ship headed for faraway England. When the little bear arrived at London's busy Paddington Station, he was discovered by Mr. and Mrs. Brown. As luck would have it, the Browns were just the sort of people to welcome a lost bear into their family.

The 3rd movie in the trilogy comes out Wednesday, December 17, 2014

A great modern classic and the prelude to THE LORD OF THE RINGS

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum.

Stephen King's Revival

In a small New England town, over half a century ago, a shadow falls over a small boy playing with his toy soldiers. Jamie Morton looks up to see a striking man, the new minister. Charles Jacobs, along with his beautiful wife, will transform the local church. The men and boys are all a bit in love with Mrs. Jacobs; the women and girls feel the same about Reverend Jacobs—including Jamie’s mother and beloved sister, Claire. With Jamie, the Reverend shares a deeper bond based on a secret obsession. When tragedy strikes the Jacobs family, this charismatic preacher curses God, mocks all religious belief, and is banished from the shocked town.
Jamie has demons of his own. Wed to his guitar from the age of thirteen, he plays in bands across the country, living the nomadic lifestyle of bar-band rock and roll while fleeing from his family’s horrific loss. In his mid-thirties—addicted to heroin, stranded, desperate—Jamie meets Charles Jacobs again, with profound consequences for both men. Their bond becomes a pact beyond even the Devil’s devising, and Jamie discovers that revival has many meanings.

JFK Assassination presentation

Denise Hazelwood, local researcher of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, will be at the library on Monday, November 3 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Denise’s program “JFK Cut-N-Paste Assassination” highlights a new theory synthesized from evidence found by other researchers combined with her own contributions to the assassination literature. Denise will outline some of the various other assassination theories, describe the chasm between evidence and conclusions, and bridge the gap with a logical analysis of evidence that's "hidden in plain view."

This event will take place on the first floor of the library in the Community Event Room. Please note that this presentation contains graphic images not suitable for all audiences. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of Vineland Public Library. Registration is not required. Walk-ins welcome!
