Read-A-Thon This Saturday!

Children ages 10 and younger & their parents/caregivers are invited to the Vineland Public Library for a Read-A-Thon celebrating National Library Week.  Enjoy an extended story time (come and go as you please), as well as random prize drawings -  you must be present to win!   Each child who attends a story session will receive at least one free book.

Registration is not required. Children younger than age 9 must

be accompanied by an adult at all times.

 

National Library Week is the American Library Association’s national holiday—a special time to celebrate the contributions of all types of libraries and librarians.  The 2017 event will be observed April 9-15 with the theme “Libraries Transform™.”

Funding for the prizes and book giveaways is provided by The Friends of the Vineland Public Library. The library’s Teen Club will be assisting with this event. No registration is required for this free program.

Overdrive App for Android Rocks!

Got an Android based phone?  Love to read books?  Wish you can use your Android based phone to borrow books from the Vineland Library?  Well now you can thanks to the latest Overdrive App for Android devices, which lets you check out epub books or audio books for free.

Here are the basics:

·         Download the Overdrive App from Google Play (Market on some phones)

·         Create an Adobe ID by going to https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?nf=1&nl=1.

·         Add your Adobe ID to the Overdrive App within the “App Settings” page.

·         Launch the App and select your local library - Vineland Public Library

·         Search for and make a selection to download either an Epub book or Audio book then click on “ Add to Cart” or “ Place on Hold” for those books currently checked out.

·         The App will direct you to log into the Vineland Public Library using your Library card number to check out.

·         Click on download and within minutes enjoy reading or listening to your selection.

Note: Some material can be checked out for no more than 7 days while others will give you the option of 14 days.

Search Newspapers Through the Vineland Public Library Webpage

Vineland Public Library is now making the Daily Journal as well as national newspapers such as the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer available through its website: www.vinelandlibrary.org. The library has contracted with ProQuest to allow Vineland Public Library cardholders to search its Newsstand database and print out articles published during the last decade or even earlier. For example, the Daily Journal is available back to August 1999, while the Philadelphia Inquirer goes back to January 1983 and the New York Times to June 1980. The database covers 1309 publications including 941 newspapers and 101 trade journals.

Library patrons can access the Newsstand database from the library or remotely from their home or office computers with Internet access. The database contains national, international and leading regional newspapers that may be of interest, including NJ Business, The Press of Atlantic City, the Courier Post, USA Today, Barron’s, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune and many others.

The Newsstand database can be easily searched to locate specific articles or articles on a given topic. It also includes a special search option for finding obituaries.

Contact the library Information Desk at 856-794-4244 ext. 4243 for further information or help with using the Newsstand database. Library cards can be obtained free of charge at the library’s Front Desk by showing a driver’s license with a Cumberland County address and filling out a short form.
