Kelly’s Book Review: Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith by Gabby Douglas
Gabby Douglas, the reigning
Olympic All Around Gymnastics gold champion, is such an inspiring young woman.
Even though gymnastics is something I have been interested in since my
childhood, her story will still impact those who are not as interested in the
sport.
She tells her life story in a young voice and will attract teenage
readers with her text lingo (i.e. lol), and her love for current pop culture
(i.e. tv show, Vampire Diaries). Her story especially will resonate with young
teenage girls because her desires and difficulties closely mirror those of any
average teenager.
Yes, training for the Olympics is something very few teenage girls have the opportunity or desire to do, but all of us have dreams and goals that require persistence to achieve.
If you'd like to read this book, you can call the Information Desk (856) 794-4244 ext. 4243.

Become a Friend of the Library!
More than 15,000 children, teens and
adults benefited from programs sponsored by the Friends of the Vineland
Library. The Friends of Vineland Public Library organized
in 1970 to help build a new library building. Our efforts resulted
in the beautiful library on Landis Avenue, which opened its doors
in 1976. Forty years later the Friends are still active and our work
is still critical to the community library's success.

Reminder: Library Casino Night!
Save the date - Friday, April 26
from 7:00 -10:00 p.m. - for an evening of fun, food, music, and gambling at the
Vineland Public Library. The Library’s
Foundation invites you to its annual Casino Night, where this year’s theme is
“Calypso Casino”. You will enjoy
scrumptious food and games of chance to the reggae and island beat tunes of the
Steel Horizons Pan Group. Also on tap
are a cash bar, door prizes, the chance to win a big flat screen TV, a Resorts
Weekend Getaway, and lots of other exciting prizes.
Each
year the Foundation sponsors a major event devoted to its Library Capital
Improvement Fund. This year’s goal is to raise $10,000 towards a roof and
window replacement project. If you’ve visited the Library recently on a rainy
day – you know just how much work is needed to keep the books and computers
dry.
There’s no better way to support
this project than by getting together a group of friends to share the fun. Tickets are available at the Library or from
any Foundation Board member. They are yours
for a donation of $45, which also buys you $25 of players’ money – food and
soft drinks, music and camaraderie – not to mention the chance to bet high and
win big. Call 856-794-4244 for
information.
Please
come and join us and remember: Don’t worry, be happy… at The Calypso Casino.
